Cycling challenge for Alzheimer's
Scunthorpe Telegraph Friday 14th August 2009
A FANTASTIC foursome rode more than 200 miles to raise £2,500 for the Alzheimer's Society.
Jenny Sheriff, 45, from Bristol rode a gruelling 222 miles with three friends to raise money and awareness for the debilitating disease which affects her mother Beryl.
Despite injuries, sore legs and bike malfunctions, the team crossed the finish line in triumph at Randolph House, Ferry Road West, at 4pm on Wednesday after a three-day trek.
"We thought it would be a great way to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society as it is such an important charity," she said.
Jenny and her friends have been training for the gruelling ride since March.
"We chose to finish at Randolph House in Scunthorpe because my mum is a resident at the home," she said.
"It was such a relief to cross the finish line - we all have sore bums and tired legs and we are looking forward to a good night's sleep."
Jenny and the rest of the team have managed to raise more than £2,500 for the Alzheimer's Society.
Her father Leslie Sheriff, 76, said he was extremely proud of his daughter's achievement.
"I am exceptionally proud of Jenny and the team," he said.
"When we were first planning the event I never thought that they would do it.
"It is marvellous that they have raised so much money and people have been so generous."
Leslie and his wife Beryl, 75, moved to Winteringham when they retired after running the St Giles Post Office in Lincoln for more than 35 years.
