Scunthorpe Telegraph Tuesday 19th February 2008
Firefighters helped free a young girl who was trapped in a playground ride yesterday.
The youngster's hand became trapped in a roundabout at a park on Frost Close, Winteringham. She was freed by fire crews from Winterton Fire Station just after 2.30pm.
They used high pressure air lifting bags to raise the ride enough for her hand to be freed.
Nick Hill, a spokesman for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said: "This is just another illustration of how diverse the modern fire and rescue service is in dealing with a wide variety of incidents.
"The retained crew from Winterton did an excellent job releasing the child and giving first aid until the ambulance arrived."
CHURCH BECOMES PART OF GROUP
Scunthorpe Telegraph Wednesday 6th February 2008
All Saints' Church in Winteringham has joined the Winterton group of parishes as part of a reorganisation of churches in the North Manlake area.
The move comes about following the retirement of the vicar of Burton-Upon-Stather.It means the vicars of Alkborough and Winterton will now be in charge of all churches in the area to the north of Scunthorpe.
New service times will be published in the church magazine, as well as in the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
The Winterton group now includes four parishes; Appleby, Roxby, Winteringham and Winterton.
The Rev Alice Nunn, vicar of Winterton, said: "The church wardens of the four parishes which comprise the Winterton group have agreed with their vicar how and when services will be held across the parishes and congregations will soon be getting used to the new times and meeting each other.
The Rev Nunn said there would be services every Sunday in at least two churches in the group and there would often be services in three.
She said: "On special Sundays there will be one service in one of the churches and the next united service is on Palm Sunday, March 16, when we welcome the Bishop of Lincoln at St Mary's, Roxby at 10.30am.
"Everybody is welcome to come along."
