Walker completes Munros challenge
Scunthorpe Telegraph, Monday, May 11, 2009
A walking enthusiast from Winteringham has joined a select group to have climbed all of Scotland's Munros. Chris Knowles, 67, of West End in the village, is one of 4,000 people to have scaled all 284 of the 3,000ft-plus peaks in the Highlands. The challenge has taken him 10 years to complete, although he did not initially set out to cross off the full list. He said: "I have been going to Scotland and walking in the hills for many years. "You do so many and then think it might be worth carrying on." Mr Knowles' final ascent proved to be extra special as he was joined by 60 of his family and friends. The Scottish flag has been flying at Mr Knowles' house since he completed the feat and he said he would continue to make regular walking trips north of the border.
